FIDDLE CONTEST RULES

Fiddling - All Classes:

  1. Each contestant must play a waltz 3/4 time, a jig 6/8 time and a reel 2/4 or 4/4 time in that order.
  2. A novice fiddler is one who has competed no more than 3 years and has never placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
  3. Contestants must complete their three tunes within a four minute time span. Any playing after the time-up bell has been sounded will not be judged.
  4. Contestants not using standby accompanist must furnish their own. Please have your accompanist ready when you are called.
  5. Each contestant will be allowed the choice of one instrument for accompaniment.
  6. In case of an accident beyond the contestant's control, (i.e. broken string) a replay will be allowed.   If a fiddler stops due to their own error, points will be deducted.
  7. Each contestant may enter one Class only (except twin fiddle).
  8. All decisions of the judges are final.
  9. Please note all Fiddle Classes: Contestants winning any class three years in succession will automatically be eliminated from that class, but may enter a class of higher calibre.
  10. In the event of a tie, fiddlers will be asked to play a Waltz, Jig and Reel.  This applies to 12 & Under, 18 & Under, Open Class and Twin.  This does not apply to Novice categories.
  11. Fiddlers will be judged on intonation, tone, technique and overall accuracy.
9 & Under Fiddle: Each contestant may only perform one tune of his/her choice (waltz, jig or reel). Any fiddler who wishes to play waltz, jig and reel must enter another class.

Twin Fiddle: must play harmony. 2 contrasting tunes.

Novice Fiddle Classes have the choice to play a Waltz, jig or Reel.
